Susan Says: A Walk on the Bridal Dark Side

For her Fall 2012 bridal show this month, famed designer Vera Wang, who has been in the bridal business for almost 22 years, stunned the industry sending black bridal gowns down the runway.  Don't think completely gothic:  I was wowed by the black gowns, into which Ms. Wang worked lace, frothy tulle, silk and organza with lingerie motifs, including corset tops.  Ms. Wang also displayed some of her bridal creations in nude which I found to be absolutely stunning.

According to Mark Ingram, owner of Mark Ingram Bridal Atelier in NYC, in a recent New York Times article, "...it was bold, but it also made me pay attention to the details all that more carefully."
We are all aware that conventionally white is worn by the bride and the bride alone on her wedding day. Thinking outside the box, Jung Lee, a founder of Fete, an event planning company in NYC told the Times that in years to come, "A bride in black will draw more attention than one in white or ivory."
Last season, Ms. Wang began her darker mood move with lots of dove gray gowns in more traditional styles but after seeing the newest black (and nude) gowns, I must admit that I am totally and completely bewitched!
